Bracketing Basics
Note: Divisions may be combined/dropped at the discretion of the tournament director due to a low number of entries. Players may play in higher divisions if desired.
Age - "Pick & Roll" will bracket school-aged teams based on player grades, not ages, in the 2008-2009 school year; however, age will be considered if player age is significantly different than the normal age range for the specified bracket. Youth brackets will be established in three divisions; grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. High School brackets will be established for two divisions; grades 9-10 and 11-12. If enough teams register, requiring multiple adult Open Division brackets, the following ranges will be used as a basis to bracket teams: 18-25, 26-35, 36-54, and 55+. Without exception, adult teams will be placed into brackets based on the age of the youngest player. Youth and high school teams will be placed in brackets based on the highest grade (i.e. a team made up of three fourth-grade students and one fifth-grade student will compete in the 5th & 6th grade bracket). Height - Player height, especially that of the tallest player on each team, is important in determining team brackets. Unfortunately, many players choose to misrepresent their height on their entry forms. These players need to understand that if their actual height differs from what they indicated on their entry forms, they may be immediately disqualified from the tournament. Experience - Tell us about your experience as a player, as well as if you've ever played at such levels as high school varsity or college ball.
